Fight with our own people..WHY??

I read a news very recently about the encounter of 20 Maoists(Naxalites) in Chhattisgarh. The very next day there was another news, showing a picture of a grieving family and the statement was that the villagers have urged that these 20 persons were not maoists. Rather they were innocent villagers and the encounter was 100% fake.
Its not the single news about encounter of Maoists in recent days, almost every day there is an article on the same.

It compels me to think the reason behind it. Although I don’t have much understanding about it but I thought to share my thoughts with all of you and expect your thoughts on the same via comments.

Maoist – Communist party of India is an underground political party having a single aim to build a stable and consistent revolutionary movement in various parts of the country.

Question in my mind comes, why is that needed? Then I read somewhere that -
They say that they are fighting for the rights of the tribes. They are mainly operational in Chhatissgarh, Orissa, Bihar, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Jharkhand also they have expanded now to Uttarakhand, Assam, Manipur, Nagaland, Tamilnadu and Karnataka.

When I read this information on wikipedia, it think then which states are left??..almost none.

But I am left with the same question again, why do they need to fight for the rights?

We say that we are developing very fast. We are a democratic nation. When we look at our credentials, all of them look amazing. When we look at our economy growth, we feel proud and secured. If everything is going towards right direction, what is wrong?

I come to a very simple understanding, that there has been created a gap and we need to build the bridge. The Gap between the modern India and the Tribal India can be filled only with Love, care and respect. And this can be provided to them only through Education and Employment. If we get able to fulfill basic necessities of them, they will have no reason to fight. There will be no need to plan for encounters.

Once we become able to build trust between modern and tribal India, there will be no need to fight with our own people. And I have the same belief in the old saying that to become powerful, we need to build walls of our home strong.

I wish, our government understands it quickly and overcomes all the loopholes in the system so that all benefit programs which have been designed to build this trust among all, reach actually to those who require it, I feel all problems will be solved then.

What is your opinion??

  1. Very thoughtful. We are fighting an enemy within. The tribes have to be brought into mainstream society but without disturbing their core fabric. Develop India from the roots not the leaves. For the leaves can wither away in only a minor storm.

  2. The movement that started in Naxalbari was based on an ideology but it has transformed into insurgency through these years.Around half the districts in India are red corridor districts i.e naxalite infested.Yes you are right that these districts remain untouched by the various policies and plans formulated for them by the political coterie and this is more so because we re caught up in a perpetual trap. The official strategy towards obliteration of such phenomena is two pronged , first is the use of physical force against maoists and secondly rapid socio-economic development in these areas. Both the approaches have their set of problems.Excessive use of paramilitary forces in these areas at times leads to fake encounters as you mentioned and there have been numerous allegations of human rights violations;such is a feature of all places in India where forces are deployed in civilan atmosphere eg disturbed areas under AFSPA. Efforts towards development are moreover blocked by naxalites and the official machinery fails to delivery to the tribals eg. schools built to promote education by the government are not allowed to stand for long and vandalised by naxalites and more recently they are resorting to harassing officials and kidnapping(like Malkangiri DM Vineel Krishna and Sukma DM Alex Paul) them to dissuade youth from working in such areas.Effectively this is a barrier to reach the tribals in the first place.
Absence of governance in the first place lead to a large fraction of the country being ruled by institutionalised red sytems like justice delivery system etc.The maoist ideology that fought for the rights of the innocents is now dowsed in political ambitions and vested interests , in many places(not all) keeping tribals under terror and using advanced technology in warfare tactics(better than CISF!).It is this perpetal trap that makes it difficult to provide the innocent tribals from their share of life.
